Fulfilling a Dream
THE FOURTEEN are Revolutionary War combatants who were killed at the Battle of Camden on August 16, 1780, and whose remains were rescued from erosion and relic hunting activity in 2022. They were honored in 2023 with a grand military funeral befitting their memory, and then reburied adjacent to Historic Camden Foundation’s 104 acre Rev War Living History Park.
After they were safely put to rest, it was hoped that one day advanced DNA technology might help their caretakers learn more about them.

Forging New Frontiers
After the reburials, Historic Camden Foundation, the battlefield’s owner and custodian, fulfilled its promise to the public to employ advanced DNA technology to learn more about these heroes. Some said 244 year old remains couldn’t be sequenced for genetic genealogy.
We proved they can.
And the Rev War Forensic Institute
was born.
